A computationally efficient design of interior permanent magnet (IPM) motor rotor features is investigated utilizing analytical methods. Over the broad operating range IPM machines, interactions MMF sources, permeances, and currents result in torque harmonics. The placement traditional along with sculpt are utilized to minimize ripple maximize average torque. We extend winding function theory include rotor’s primary secondary reluctance paths non-homogeneous airgap features. new model single-V machine introduced, which considers sculpted how this can be used approach machines. Results validated finite elements. Rotor feature trends established increase intuition reduce dependency upon lengthy experiment optimization processes.
